Goldfinger Magazine #2

GOLDFINGER MAGAZINE 20 DIAMONDS Diamond is the hardest natural substance on Earth. Its name comes from the Greek word ‘Adamas,’ which means unbeatable, unalterable, and indomitable. Among other things, this is why it is referred to as an ‘eternal’ stone. Diamonds are formed under conditions of high pressure and extreme temperature, at depths of over 140 kilometers in the Earth’s crust, and they reach the surface through volcanic eruptions. A rough diamond typically has the shape of an octahedron, like two pyramids joined at the base, each with four facets. Since it is a natural phenomenon, each diamond is unique. Diamonds come in various sizes, colors, and with different internal characteristics. The value of a diamond, or any other, is based on a combination of several factors. There is a systematic and internationally agreed-upon framework among jewelry professionals for evaluating these factors, developed by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). This system uses four factors known as the 4 Cs: Cut, Color, Clarity, and Carat. When purchasing a diamond, it is important to know the 4 Cs of your acquisition. These 4 Cs are documented in certificates issued by leading gemological laboratories worldwide. The most well-known are GIA, HRD, and IGI. Certificates provide an international guarantee. WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW WHEN BUYING A DIAMOND?
